KILLEEN, Texas — An alarming TikTok trend could be the reason for multiple car thefts and break-ins in a Killeen parking lot.

Tesla workers who have to park in the lot at 602 West Elms Road, in order to be shuttled to the facility they work at, have experienced multiple break-ins.

One concerned resident told Six News that most of the cars being stolen are Kia's.

"The other day 8 cars been broken into," the resident who will remain anonymous said.

The Killeen Police Department confirmed with Six News the most recent break-in, which was on Oct. 13. 

"Our officers did respond to the call...the officer did file a Criminal Mischief report for the reporting person," Killeen Police said.

The resident Six News spoke with said this car was a Kia and that most of the break-ins have been Kias as well.

The anonymous resident said the lot is an easy target for thieves because it's not lit.

"You can barely see the cars and there are like over 300 cars parked out here," they said.

Killeen Police did confirm the lot at 602 West Elms Road is not adequately lit.

The recommendation from the department is for concerned employees to reach out to Tesla so they can look into hiring security to monitor the parking lot over in the night hours.

Six News has reached out to Tesla multiple times regarding this concern and has yet to get a response.

As for now, concerned residents and workers want action to be taken to stop this trend from happening more and more.

"I think Tesla should get with the city of Killeen and find out a better way of protecting the cars of the people who work for Tesla," they said.
